Also, during every weekend in December (Thursday, Fridays & Saturdays only), you can experience “GLOW” at the Santa Fe Botanical Garden. The garden will be transformed into a glowing winter wonderland! Entry is only $8 and children 12 and younger are FREE! On Friday, December 13th, celebrate “Christmas at the Palace”, which takes place at the Palace of the Governors, on the historic Santa Fe Plaza. Enjoy a delightful evening of hot cider, live music, entertainment and even a visit of Mr. and Mrs. Claus! Christmas at the Palace is from 5:30 PM – 8 PM and it’s FREE! On Sunday, December 15th, you can participate in “Las Posadas” on the plaza in Santa Fe. This is a live, outdoor traditional Spanish folk play (a procession actually) which reenacts Mary and Joseph's search for a room on Christmas Eve. It starts at the Palace of the Governors at 5:30 PM and winds around the Plaza, with spectators following along. During this event, the devil will even make an appearance or two. Afterwards, everyone gathers for cookies, music, hot cider and a chance to visit with Santa in the Palace courtyard and it is FREE! The Las Posadas festivities conclude at 7 PM. On December 20th & 21st, you can visit the First Baptist Church’s Living Nativity. The outdoor manger scene has the Christ-child, Mary, Joseph, wisemen, shepherds, angels and many farm animals, including horses, donkeys and goats. There will even be shepherds in the field tending their sheep and a market place and it is FREE! On December 21st and 22nd, you can enjoy a world-class production of The Nutcracker. It’s a holiday favorite. The set is enchanting and with a cast of 60 dancers, there are surprises in every scene! On Tuesday, December 24th, come celebrate Christmas Eve on the Santa Fe Plaza and on Canyon Road. These will be filled with thousands of flickering farolitos, turning them into a holiday wonderland. There are carols and cider and bonfires. Many people walk a few blocks to the Cross of the Martyrs, where you can take in the views of the entire city and more farolitos and bonfires. This is also a time of year that many of the Native American Pueblos will host ceremonial feast days, which are open to the public. If you are traveling by car, be sure to pack a couple of lawn chairs. You will appreciate having seating while you are viewing the tribal ceremonial dances.
