Cumbres & Toltec Railroad, Trains, NM Vacation, Casa Escondida B&B

The Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad is now open for the 2013 season! Casa Escondida Bed & Breakfast is located in historic Chimayo, NM, which is only a 1 ½ hour, scenic-drive from the train depot of this celebrated and historic narrow gauge railroad. Your train trip starts in Chama, NM. Experience the scenic train ride through the southern Rocky Mountains, on what is a historic artifact of the American West. The Cumbres & Toltec Railroad was built in 1880. It remains virtually unchanged since that time. It is a working museum! The Cumbres & Toltec Railroad is actually America’s highest and longest coal fired, steam operated, narrow-gauge railroad! It is the most outstanding and best known example of steam-era mountain railroading in North America. A ride on the Cumbres & Toltec Railroad is a unique experience that is great for folks of any age. The Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad was even awarded the National Historic Landmark designation this year. Weather and temperatures vary throughout the ride, depending on the elevation and the time of year. Check the weather forecast and dress accordingly.  Reserve your seat in 1 of 3 classes: Choose to ride in the comfort of Coach Class or upgrade to the individual seating of Deluxe Tourist Class or experience your ride in the Victorian splendor of Parlor Class. No matter which class you choose, all riders can enjoy the open-air observation platform car for unobstructed views, great photo opportunities and a chance to spot some of the abundant wildlife. Throughout the trip you’ll find friendly and informative docents on board who can take you on a journey of history, scenery and machinery, just as it was over 125 years ago. The Cumbres & Toltec Railroad runs 7 days a week, through October 20th, 2013, offering 6 different train trip options. A hearty lunch is served during your stop at the Osier station and is included in your fare. All trips depart at 10 AM. In addition to the daily train rides, they also offer a variety of specialty or themed train rides (Sunset, 4th of July Fireworks, Sunday Express, Geology, Civil Engineers, etc). Check their schedule for details on these types of rides. You can book your train ride by phone or you can book directly at their website. Remember that kids under 12 years of age ride for FREE, with the purchase of an adult train ticket. Military, AAA and AARP, all qualify for a 10% discount.
