Then at 4:30 PM, Santa is scheduled to visit the Jemez Village Plaza. There, you can partake in the Christmas caroling. You can also stay for the tree lighting ceremony at 5:30 PM. From the Village Plaza area, you can take a FREE horse-drawn wagon ride to the Jemez State Monument. This is one of New Mexico’s most interesting tourist attractions. The Jemez State Monument is a beautiful prehistoric site. It includes the stone ruins of a 500 year old Indian village and the San José de los Jemez church dating to 1610. Here, you can experience “Light Among the Ruins” from 5 PM – 8 PM. Admission is FREE! Be sure to bring your camera! This is when the ruins are decorated with HUNDREDES of traditional farolitos. While at the Jemez Monument ruins, you can warm yourself by the bonfires while you experience Jemez Pueblo dancers and Native American flute music. So bring the entire family!
